Magic Creation

The page contains a quick reference guide to creating magical effects, known as Rotes. These are spells and effects that you have done many times and with which you are very comfortable. They will not incur a fast-casting penalty and are easier to concentrate on while being distracted. Each player will start out with 5 rotes for free and any additional rotes will cost 1xp per the highest dot of a sphere being used for the effect.

Creating rotes takes your broadly defined paradigm, through the narrow tunnel of using a focus, and creates a very specific effect. An Order of Hermes, German, pyromage may have elder futhark runes carves into a wand, with an obsidian gem embedded in it that he has to use any time he works fire magic. A Cult of Ecstasy who alters her perceptions to create magic may have to take cocaine to dilate time around her, thus giving her an extra action each turn for a scene.
